Tomatin Distillery

Established: 1897

Location: Tomatin

Tomatin Distillery, established in 1897, is nestled in the Scottish Highlands, approximately 25 minutes south of Inverness. Renowned for its unpeated, light, and fruity single malts, Tomatin has evolved from its origins as a modest distillery to one of Scotland’s largest malt whisky producers in the 1970’s, boasting a capacity of 12.5 million litres per year. However, production scaled back in the subsequent decades, and today, the distillery operates at a capacity of just over 5 million litres annually.

A distinctive feature of Tomatin’s production is its notably long fermentation period, lasting an impressive 168 hours (1 week). This extended fermentation imparts a fresh, tropical, and fruity character to their whiskies.

Visitors to Tomatin Distillery can explore its rich heritage and whisky-making process through a variety of tours. The distillery also offers an extensive range of single malts, including 12, 14, 18, 30, and 36-year-old expressions, as well as limited editions and cask-strength offerings.
